Making of Manufacturing Techniques of Traditional Zitae Lacquer wares

The art of Korean lacquering has a history of thousands of years. The objects made by ancient Korean master s demonstr ate their adva nced skills and craftsmanship. However. there are few record s remaining that descr ibe how and by whom they were made. Consequently, the technique of lacqu erin g has been lost. It is necessary to redi scover the forgotte n process in order to make authentic Korean product s that can be commercia lized. In thi s study. we ar e aiming to rediscover, moderni ze and standardize techniques used by ancie nt master s. The techniques and procedure established in thi s s tudy will be applied to develop new produ cts that are more benefitable and useful for more practical applications.
