A Study on Korean Traditional Paper Flowers(7)

Following "A Study on Korean Traditional Paper Flowers(l) published in 1981, this study was conducted to examine and analyse the Traditional paper flower technique of Mr. and Mrs. Seok who are exorcists in Taegu. This study focused on three relatively big-scaled ones(waterfall exorcisms on Nov. 30, 1991 and Mar. 13, 1994, and Jungdae exorcism on Apr. 21, 1994) out of their exorcism services performed from 1991 to 1998. The features of their paper flowers were summarized as follows, compared to those of five persons that were previously studied. (1) Their paper flowers are as delicate as fresh flowers. (2) Compared to the paper flowers of exorcists in the east coast, their flowers are more beautiful and elegant because the diameter of the circumference is relatively small. (3) The use of tools both for their own unique characteristics and for convenient working implies that they have an uncommon devotion for paper flowers. (4) There are twenty-two kinds of paper flowers . (5) It is more remarkable that they have a unique technique to express the shapes of common flowers that are easily seen around us, as well as the traditional technique of paper flowers .
