Making of Manufacturing Techniques of Traditional Keum tae Lacquer wares

The art of Korean lacquering has a history of thousands of years. The objects made by ancient Korean masters demonstrate their adva nced skills and craftsmanship. However, there are few records remaining that describe how and by whom they were made. Consequently, the technique of lacquerin g has been lost. It is necessary to rediscover the forgotten process in order to make authentic Korean products that can be commercialized. In this study, we are aiming to redi scover, modernize and standardize techniques used by ancie nt masters. The techniques and procedure esta blished in this study will be applied to develop new products that are more benefitable and useful for more practical applications.
