This study was performed to inves tigate the physical and mechanical properties of the six differ ent kinds of fabrics using two Korean traditional papers(Y: the highest grade paper, W: high grade paper) and four compound materia ls(YY: sewing on the paper 'Y ' , WY: sewing on the paper ·W· , YYG: sewing cotton gauze on 'YY' , WYG: sewing cotton gauze on ·WY' ). The purpose of this study was to develop new material s for fashion clothes. The following resu lts were obtained from this experimental study. It has shown that compound materials, YY and WY weighed 48-50g/rn' more than papers. and YYG had the greatest increase of the weight.( ∆ 95.6g/ nf ). Increase o f thickness was found on the compound materi als.( ∆1 - 1.2mm). Two paper s have lower air permeabilit y, hut the four compound material s have improv ed remarkably (Y: 4.0 2, W: 1.24 , YY: 47.78, WY: 39 .30. YYG, WYG; 37crrl/ crrl /sec) . It was shown that thermal insul ation also improved a lilli e hit. Ahras ion resistance was improved excee d ingly. WYG had a value of ahrasion resistance J 3 times than paper ·W· . The compound materials, YY and WY increased definit ely for EM among tensile propert ies . But the compound materials had lower values than papers more or Jess. The compound mater ial, YY had the highest value for LC of compression properties. The compound materi al, WY had the highest MIU value among surface properties.
