The history of earthenware jars has begun from the era of earthenware vessel to the present. Nevertheless, it is presumed that the time of pottery like earthenware being formed has been traced back to the Koryo Dynasty, the 3rd century AD. Jars made of clay, namely potteries have been essential vessels to be used in the daily life particularly to Korean nation, which is thought to imply the emotion of the citizens. But recently with the influence of mat erial civili zation, its soul and essence are at risk of coming to extin ction. This research is purpose at contr ibuting to the restoration of earthenware jar industry as a new model. The results were as follows; I. comparison of form by region We can see that jars in Cholla-Doprovince have almost same form , Other regions even in the same areas, lines and shape are distinctly different from each other. Di viding into 6 reg ions that are Kyong gi, Kangwon, Chungchong, Cholla, Kyongsan g, Cgeju, etc., the result of compa red form analysis is that length of the base to belly-center, diam eter of belly, diameter of edge, diameter of the base, gradient of shoulder, gradient of shoulder to belly-center, gradient of the base, gradient of base to bell y-center are displ ayed of signific ant difference between regions in the item of the whole measurement(p< .OOI ). It has beens tudied over and analy zed that the production technique seems to have rela tion to differen ceIf day and night in length, temper ature, amount of rainfall, etc . caused by wea the r.2. Study over the line and fun ctional beauty It is thought that the curve of Korean ea rthenware jars has relation with the folk life. It is consi dered to have relation with the beauty of the line coming from the bodily movement shown with the inherent, traditi onal dance and from the locus of movement of hands. It has been ana lyzed that sucha curve is closelyrelated to the functional phase. That is, it is said that the line of pattern, form, and stored contents have relati on between them. It is analyzed that in case, the surface line of pattern form showing the stored contents of thejar is the potbelly line, the pattern shown as the partial one. And it not iced that the jar with asmall size line of the potbelly has mostly the symmetrical patterns. On the other hand, it was fur ther observed that there was change in the line according to pressure that should be received due to the stored contents. If the stored contents should be take much pressure, the pot belly line should become small. If the potbelly line should be comparat ively large, and less pressu reshould be received , there is the nature of function being used. The conclusion drawn from above results; First ,When the form of the jar viewed with the line, the fact is that the curve of the jar in the So uthern part has more varie ties than that in the Central part. But for ChejuIsland, though the belly is swollenabit, yet the glaze and form are different from that of the mainland. This has been ana lyzed as result of bad combination caused by the in sufficient foundation. Second, the exterior form of the jar has corre lation with the climate of the region. It can be the characte ristic of the jarin the Central region that if the belly curve is simple(degree of swell is less) the beauty of the curve is simple. The swollen type of which belly is swollen muc his seen remar kably in the Sou thernregion. This is analyzed as the result of our ancestors' wisdom by their exp erience who intended to give more influence of longer suns hine hours, warm temper ature, and radiant heat to the jar for food stored.
