This study explores an immersion education program for a group of talented students in an elementary school in Gyeonggi-do. For the English immersion program 19 students, three boys and sixteen girls, were selected from grades three to six. The program was conducted in the form of co-teaching by a Korean teacher and an English speaking native teacher. The study illustrates the process of implementing the immersion model for social studies using the contents across the relevant grades. It also shows various phases of the application of the model to the immersion class over 20 periods. Class observation, video-taping, and performance tests were employed for the analyses of the development and the effects of the program. Results reveal that the immersion program was effective for the group of talented students and there was no negative influence on the students’ subject achievements. The development of immersion programs like this one for specially grouped classes are supposed to contribute to expanding the methods and the realms of English teaching for students’ more exposure to English in public elementary schools in Korea.
