A Study on Tendency of Purchasing Wedding Presents (Jewelry)

The purpose of this study is to provide a basic infonnation on tendency of purchasing wedding presents by analyzing customer satisfaction of the jewelry wedding present market. A survey was conducted with women who got married after the year 2000. According to the results, among jewelry such categories as design, color, stone, noble metal, price, and wrapping, people were least satisfied with price, especially the price of brooches. The next least satisfactory category was wrapping. Therefore, a proper price level should be fixed when the basic information on tendency of purchasing, especially that of brooches. Likewise, it can be concluded that the direction of wedding jewelry wrapping should be also developed. Second, the most wanted item among wedding jewelry was a one or more carat diamond in the case of rings and necklaces. People wanted a O.5- carat diamond in the case of eanings, bracelets, and brooches. For trinkets, people wanted pure gold the most. Regarding noble metals, people were most interested in gold for rings and bracelets, diamonds for brooches, bracelets, and earrings, and sapphires and pearls for necklaces and earrings. Third, people thought that rings, bracelets, brooches, and trinkets were the most appropriate presents for a mother-in-law, and that necktie pins, rings, and buttons(especially gold buttons) for the Hanbok(a traditional Korean clothing) were the best presents for a father-in-law.
