A Study of Leather Dyeing Using Paste -Focusing on Stencil Paper Printing-

Paste dyeing is the technique that uses paste as resistance. There are two ways to dye using paste as resistance : One is to use stencil paper and the other is to put the dyes into a cone and make patterns by sqeezing the cone. Cone dyeing is the technique that permits to print only one at a time. On the other hand, stencil paper printing allows mass production. With feeding paper dipped into sticky rice and the persimmon juice, it allows to coordinate simplistic beauty. The main goal of this study is to assess the effect of stencil printing on making various patterns on leather. In doing so, the process of making stencil paper and of paste that are the basis of stencil paper printing will also be shown. We chose cow skin for it has been widely used. We try to reveal the fact unique smooth touch of leather will be enhanced with this technique. The possibility of mass production, esthetic and practical aspect of leather dyeing with the technique of stencil paper printing will also be assessed.
