A Study on Korean Traditional Paper Flowers(13) -Focusing on the techniques of Lee Yeong-hee, a Female Shaman Performing the Seoul Exorcism-

The mam pw-pose of this study is to preserve and transfer the techniques of disappearing traditional paper flower making methods, following the study vol. 1 to 13 on Korean traditional paper flowers in 1981. In exorcisms, paper flowers play a role as an important medium which supports gods, invokes gods, makes people play with gods and sends gods to the other world. In addition, paper flowers imply a reign of peace, long life, praying for individual blessing, and revival. The object of this study is to arrange the paper flower making techniques of Lee Y eong- hee, a female shaman performing the Seoul exorcism which has been studied since 2000. As study methods, data are collected by visits and field investigations accompanying photos and video images, techniques are learned by conversations and actual participation in paper flower production, and the study is recorded by investigating the use and symbolic meaning of paper flowers in exorcisms. The characteristics of paper flowers made by Lee Yeong- hee are as follows. First, there are a total of 15 kinds of paper flowers without flower patterns. Second, 'Pleated paper' is specially used as one of her materials. Third, paper flowers by Lee Yeong-hee reproduce a similar type of court table flowers.
