The Life of Students During the Korean War in South Korea

국민국가형성을 목표로 출발한 근대교육체제에서 학생의 존재 문제는 교육의 본질적 문제이며, 한 시대의 교육의 성격을 엿볼 수 있는 창이 된다. 이 논문은 한국전쟁기라는 시대, 사회 상황 하에서 신생국가 대한민국 학생의 존재와 삶의 문제를 고찰한 글이다. 구체적 연구 문제는 세 가지다. 첫째, 정치 이념의 관점에서 학생의 삶을 고찰하였다. 한국전쟁은 이데올로기 전쟁이기 때문에 전쟁 전과 전쟁 후의 정치 이념이 학생의 삶에 어떠한 영향을 끼쳤는지를 살펴보았다. 또 전쟁 중 서로 다른 두 국가체제의 병사로 복무할 수밖에 없었던 학생의 삶과 체험에 대해서도 고찰하였다. 둘째, 학생의 본질적 삶이라 할 수 있는 학교생활을 고찰하였다. 전쟁 중 학생들의 일상적 학교생활 속에서 학교가 병영화되고, 학생이 병사화되어 간 과정을 살펴보았으며, 학생이 정치도구화 되어 간 과정을 고찰하였다. 셋째, 경제생활의 관점에서 본 학생의 삶을 고찰하였다. 삶의 기본적인 요소인 경제적 삶을 통하여 시대와 사회적의 존재로서 학생의 삶을 살펴보았다. 한국전쟁기에 확립된 군국주의적 학생문화는 20세기 후반 한국의 학생관을 결정짓는 중요한 토대가 되었다.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the life of students during the Korean War in South Korea. This Paper is divided into five chapters. In chapter Ⅱ, ‘Political ideology and life of students’, I examined how the political ideology before the Korean War and during the Korean War could effects life of students. Also, I examined the life and experience of students who have to serve soldier of South Korea and North Korea. In chapter Ⅲ, ‘School life and students life’, I examined the how and why school became barracks, and student became soldier in school life during the Korean war. Also, I examined how student became the tool for political aims. In chapter Ⅳ, ‘Economic life and students life’, I examined the life of students as a social being and historical being through the economic life that is fundamental elements. The question ‘who is students’ is basis problem of education, which will be the key to understanding the character of education in phases of times.
