세르비아 모더니즘문학의 두 경향

보편적 문학경향 가운데 하나라고 할 수 있는 ‘모더니즘문학’이 지니고 있는 특징들이 세르비아의 모더니즘문학에 어떠한 방식으로 적용되고 있는가 하는 점을 파악하는 것은, 세르비아 문학사 전체를 개괄하고 이해하는데 있어 반드시 선행되어야 한다. 더불어 개별민족으로써의 세르비아 민족이 추구했었던 새로운 문학경향이 보편적인 모더니즘문학과는 별개로 어떠한 개별적 특수성을 지니고 있는가를 파악하는 일 또한 세르비아 문학사를 이해하는데 있어 매우 중요한 일이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구논문에서는 세르비아 모더니즘문학기의 대표적인 두 작가, 요반 두취치(Јован Дучић)와 알렉사 샨티치(Алекса Шантић)의 시문학 작품들을 중심으로 세르비아 모더니즘문학의 보편성과 특수성을 조망하고자 한다. 사실주의(realizam), 나아가 자연주의(naturalizam)와 실증주의(pozitivizam) 문학에 대한 반발로 일어난 모더니즘문학의 다양한 경향들은 세르비아민족이 처해있었던 역사적·사회적 배경과 맞물려 두 가지의 서로 다른 문학경향으로 발전했다. 개인주의적이며 페시미즘적인 경향을 띠면서 서유럽 모더니즘문학의 흐름을 추종했었던 요반 두취치의 시문학이 하나의 축이라고 한다면, 민족주의적이며 낙관주의적인 문학경향을 띠며 세르비아 민족만의 독자적인 흐름으로 발전했던 알렉사 샨티치의 시문학은 세르비아 모더니즘문학을 이끌었던 또 다른 하나의 축이라 할 수 있다.

In this paper, we took a view of the universality and distinct characteristics of Jovan Dučić and Aleksa Šantić, the typical two writers in the Serbian modern literature. In the transition from the 19th to the 20th century, Serbian literature took on all the fundamental characteristics of a modern literature. Modern poetry began with the Parnassians and the transition to symbolism. Literary criticism also changed, as did literary theory. Literary theory left the external interpretation of literature behind and moved to internal interpretation. The Serbian lands under Austro-Hungarian rule (Vojvodina, Bosnia, Herzegovina, and the Serbian regions of Croatia) continued to be affected by the influence of German literature. In the Kingdom of Serbia and its capital Belgrade, the French influence suddenly grew stronger. The Serbian modern literature caused by the resistance to the realism, naturalism and positivism, and then with the historical and social background has developed into the two different literary trends. The first trend is Jovan Dučić’s poetry which has followed the flow of western european literary modernism, and the second trend is Aleksa Šantić’s poetry which has evolved into its own flow pursuing nationalistic and optimistic literary trends.
