보완·대체의사소통 중재를 위한 연구방법론 고찰

Efficacy of AAC Interventions: Issues in Research Methodology

최근 국제적으로 보완·대체의사소통 중재 효과에 대한 연구의 필요성과 중요성이 인식되면서, 연구방법상의 여러 가지 논점에 대한 논의가 연구자들간에 활발히 진행되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 관련논문들을 검토하여 연구대상 및 연구문제 선정, 연구설계, 중재효과평가에 대한 이슈들을 고찰하였으며, 특히 연구의 충실성을 확보하기 위하여 이와 같은 연구방법을 상대적으로 연구의 역사가 짧은 보완대체의사소통 연구에 어떻게 적용해야 하는가에 대한 고찰에 중점을 두었다. 국내외의 AAC 연구의 예를 통해 논의의 이해도를 높이고자 하였으며, AAC 중재연구의 다양성이나 수적인 측면에서 아직 초기 단계인 국내의 AAC 연구에 미치는 시사점을 살펴보았다.

AAC efficacy study is important to establish best practices, maximize outcomes, ensure accountability, and in some cases justify cost. Conducting efficacy research in the research of AAC, however, faces significant challenges due to the heterogeneity of the population of people who use AAC, the complexity of AAC systems and interventions. In this paper, discussions are organized around the following issues: (1) theoretical background of AAC efficacy, (2) participant selection, (3) intervention goal (dependent variable) and intervention methods (independent variable), (4) experimental design, generalization and maintenance, and (5) comparative efficacy study. Issues about the treatment integrity and social validation and methods to ensure those are also discussed in relation to both dependent and independent variables.
