커뮤니케이션 성향과 불안감이 관광영어교육 만족감에 미치는 영향

Effect of Communication Styles and Apprehension to the Satisfaction Level on Tourism English Education

본 연구는 주로 인적자원의 서비스에 의해 제공되는 관광산업의 특성으로 유창하고 완벽한 영어를 구사할 수 있는 전문인 양성이 필요함에도 불구하고, 현실적으로 큰 효과를 보지 못하고 있는 것으로 나타나고 있는 현실에 대한 문제제기로부터 시작되었다. 의사소통 중심의 관광영어 교육에서 학생들의 수업참여와 개인의 커뮤니케이션 성향의 중요성에 대한 인식이 확산되고 있다. 또한 선행연구들의 결과에서 나타나듯, 논쟁 성향이 높은 사람들이 커뮤니케이션 기술, 비판적 사고력, 학습능력이 높은 것으로 나타나고, 커뮤니케이션 불안감은 커뮤니케이션 능력과 기술의 향상을 저해하는 것을 알 수 있다. 이러한 중요성에도 불구하고 관광영어교육과 관련한 연구는 교수법의 변화에 따른 만족감 연구에 그치고 있는 실정이며, 관광영어 교육의 당사자인 학생들의 커뮤니케이션 성향과 불안감을 살펴본 연구는 없는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 논쟁 성향과 언어적 공격성향 등 커뮤니케이션 성향과 커뮤니케이션 불안감이 관광 영어 교육 만족감에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 이슈들에 관한 입장을 주장하는 논쟁 성향은 관광영어교육을 수강하는 학생들의 수업 만족감에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤지만, 상대방의 자아개념을 공격하는 언어적 공격 성향은 학생들의 수업 만족감에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 드러났다. 커뮤니케이션 불안감은 관광영어교육을 수강하는 학생들의 수업 만족감에 일부 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데, 스피치 불안감과 수업 불안 요인만이 수업 만족감에 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 드러났다. 커뮤니케이션 성향과 커뮤니케이션 불안감의 관계에서는 논쟁 성향과 커뮤니케이션 불안감에 부적인 상관관계가 나타나, 자신의 입장을 잘 표현하는 논쟁 성향이 높을수록 커뮤니케이션 상황에서 불안을 적게 느끼는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 전체적으로 논쟁 성향이 높고, 언어적 공격 성향이 낮으며, 커뮤니케이션 불안감 중에서 스피치 불안과 수업 불안감이 낮은 학생일수록 관광영어교육의 만족감이 높았다. 이러한 결과는 학생 개개인의 커뮤니케이션 성향과 불안감의 정도를 파악해 그에 맞는 세분화된 관광영어 교육이 필요함을 시사한다.

Tourism English Education is supposed to foster fluent English bilingual professionals who can work in the tourism industry, in which quality service by human resources is the key factor in its success. This research initiated from the recognition of the reality where the current tourism English education is not effective enough to achieve the goal. In the communicative tourism English education, students' participation and individual communication styles has been considered very important. As it can be seen in the previous researches, argumentative communicators seem to have better communication skills, think critically and show better learning ability. On the other hand, the communication apprehension seems to inhibit the improvement of the communication skills. Despite the importance of communication styles and apprehension, studies on tourismEnglish education tend to be interested only in the trend of satisfaction level according to the changes in teaching methods while it's hard to find the studies on the students' communication styles and apprehension. This research investigated the effect of the communication styles such as the debate style and the aggressive style and the communication apprehension on the satisfaction of the tourismEnglish education
