The purpose of this article was to examine tea culture in the nineteenth century. This paper employed two methods to examine literatures and pictures of tea. The result of this study shows that pictures of tea were painted mainly by impressionist, portrait and genre painters. Second, most tea pots and tea bowls were characterized by mostly western patterns. Third, imported teas were mostly Chinese oolong tea and black tea, India tea and Sri Lanka tea. Fourth, how to drink tea of Europe was the brewing tea and added it to sugar, milk or cream. Fifth, the Western tea culture of nineteenth century had its own culture separate from the influence of Chinese culture of the eighteenth century.
