1920년대 이극로의 『독립운동』.『독립투쟁』과 현실 인식

Lee Guk-ro's Independence movement, Independence combat and his understanding of the realities of Korea in 1920's

이 글은 1920년대 이극로가 저술한 『조선의 독립운동과 일제의 침략정책』과『일본 제국주의에 대항한 조선의 독립투쟁』을 분석하여, 한국 현실에 대한 그의 인식을 살펴본 것이다. 이 두 권의 역사책은 이극로가 1924년과 1927년 베를린에서 유럽의 지식인 사회에 일제의 한국에 대한 폭압적인 식민정책을 폭로하고 이와 동시에 한국 민족의 독립투쟁을 알리고자 하는 취지에서 독일어로 서술한 것이었다. 그는 박은식의『한국독립운동지혈사』를 저본으로 삼고서 이들 책을 저술하였다. 그러나 서술의 구체적인 내용을 검토해 보면, 그의 역사인식이 박은식의 영향에만 그치는 것이 아니라 신채호로부터 가르침을 받았고 민족운동 과정에서 만난 김원봉·오성륜 등 의열단원을 통해 의열투쟁을 높게 평가하게 되었고, 일제로부터의 독립을 위한 민족주의와 사회주의의 협동전선의 필요성으로 나아가고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이극로는 고조선에서 조선시대까지 한국의 전근대사를 기술하였다. 특히 그는 한국사의 출발점을 고조선으로 설정하였는데, 신채호의 학설을 수용하여 단군의 고조선 건국과 강역의 광대함을 강조하였다. 한국근대사의 시발점을 갑신정변으로 규정한 박은식의 학설을 계승하여 그는 1884년에서 1927년까지 43년간의 역사를 서술하였다. 한국근대사를 일제의 침략과 이에 맞선 한국 민족의 항쟁을 기본 구도로 인식하고서 기술하였다. 그는 조선의 개혁을 좌절시킨 일제의 폭압적인 식민정책을 폭로하여 비판하였고, 이에 맞선 한국 민족의 독립운동을 강조하였다. 이와 같은 한국 민족의 독립 투쟁 때문에 일제의 침략 정책은 결국 패배할 것이라고 그는 전망하였다.

The purpose of this article is to analyze Lee Guk-ro's understanding of the realities of Korea in 1920's. In 1924 and 1927, he described a modern history of Korea from a nationalistic view of history in German language. The results were Unabhängigkeitsbewegung Koreas und japanische Eroberungspolitik (Independence movement) and Korea und sein Unabhängigkeitskampf gegen den japanischen Imperialismus(Independence combat). He wrote this book under the influence of Park un-sik's A bloody history of the independence movement of Korea(韓國獨立運動之血史). But there are many original point of view. In this book he described the brutal aggression of Japanese imperialism and korean people's desperate resistance in simple and clear expression. Lee has succeed to a claim of the absolute independence that has advocated by the uncompromising nationalists, Park un-sik and Shin chae-ho. So he insisted that a independence combat is the only means to liberate korean people. Through this book he appealed the European to support the korea's independence. He alluded to the existence of the book, A modern history of Korea(朝鮮近世史). I concluded that the book is correspond to Lee's two works, namely Independence movement(1924) and Independence combat(1927). This book have a historical significance in that in 1920's Lee Guk-ro has expounded the historical achievements of Park un-sik and Shin chae-ho.
