A Study on the Effects of Inward Foreign Direct Investment on Transshipment Traffic Volume

This study aims to analyze the effect of Korea's inward foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Logistic sector on the transshipment traffic volume . According to the results of study, unlike the expected, the effect of total inward FDI on Korea's overall container traffic volume which shows negative(-) effect is insignificant. However, inward FDI in logistics sector shows positive(+) effect. In addition, domestic investment(DI) of industrial facilities has significant positive(+) effect on container export and import, transshipment traffic volume, and the exchange rate on the United States has the negative(-) effect on the container traffic volume. Therefore, Although the effect of inward FDI in logistics sector on the container transshipment traffic volume is insignificant, it is analyzed that the DI in industrial facilities has significant effect on the transshipment cargo volume. So, Korea should create container transshipment traffic volume through aggressive development of container terminals and proactive investment in industrial facilities as well as various incentives to attract inward FDI in logistics sector actively.
