조선후기 누정기의 특징적 면모

Distinguishing Aspects of Writing Contribution Essays on Pavilions During the latter Period of Choson Dynasty

본고는 한국 누정기를 통시적으로 검토하는 연구의 일환으로, 조선후기 누정기가 지닌 특징적 면모를 고찰하였다. 특히 공간인식·자연관·서술방식의 측면에서 이전 시기 누정기와 변별되는 특징을 추출하는 데에 주안점을 두었다. 먼저 조선후기 누정기에는 自樂을 위한 공간으로 누정을 인식하는 경향이 눈에 띠었는데, 전대에 비해 정치현실을 의식하는 경향이 약화되고, 성리학적 심성 수양에 대한 강박에서 벗어나 개인의 취향에 따라 소소한 일상을 여유롭게 즐기는 양상이 강화되었다. 다음으로 여전히 성리학적 자연관이 주류를 이루는 가운데, 장자적·불교적 자연관이 이전 시기에 비해 확대되는 양상을 보였다. 이는 조선중기 이래 장자의 사유와 문체에 대한 이해가 깊어지고, 17세기 후반 이후 불교에 친연성을 보이는 문인들이 증대된 데에 따른 것이다. 마지막으로 서술방식에서 전대의 수법을 계승하는 가운데 18세기 중·후반부터 유행한 小品文의 필치가 누정기의 서술방식에도 영향을 주어 기발한 착상과 간결한 문장, 참신한 비유 등을 보여주는 글들이 나타났다. 본고는 17세기 후반부터 19세기 전반까지의 누정기를 대상으로 조선후기 누정기의 특징적 면모를 보여 주는 몇몇 글들을 표본적으로 제시하여 분석한 것이다. 19세기 중·후반까지를 포함한 조선후기 전체 누정기의 전개 양상은, 향후 한국 누정기의 전개 양상을 통시적으로 정리한 연구서의 발간을 통해 보완하도록 하겠다.

In this paper, I tried to consider some distinguishing aspects of contribution essays on pavilions during the latter period of Chosun dynasty. I, especially, focused on the view of nature, narrative style, and space recognition so as to discriminate from former period. As a result of this, I found out following aspects. First of all, people liked to regard pavilions as a space of personal satisfaction during the latter period of Chosun dynasty. This means that political interests and compulsion from Confucianism were reduced gradually while people tried to enjoy their daily life according to their personal interests. Second, the influence of Taoism and Buddhism had increased. As writers understand Taoism deeply than before, they could learn the literary style and way of thinking clearer. And they also tried to understand Buddhism. Third, short sketch which were in fashion affected to the writing style of contribution essays. So that novel idea, concise expression, and fresh allegory were established as a character of contribution essays on pavilions.
