A survey was carried out to investigate the relationship between MBTI personality type and dietary behaviors in university students. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 250 university students from May 28th to June 1st, 2004. Questionnaires of 240 students were collected and treated for statistical analysis using SAS program. Male students were 92(43.0%) and females were 122(57.0%). In distribution of personality type, the percentage of ISTJ was the highest(17.3%), and ESTJ was 14.0%, ISTP and ISFP were 9.9% respectively. There was no difference in personality type between male and female. In the relationship between personality and dietary behaviors, Perception type skipped breakfast more frequently than Judgement type(p<0.05). Sensing type ate more amount of food in dinner than Intuition type(p<0.05). The main reason of snack consumption was 'hunger' in Sensing type whereas 'instantaneous impulse' in Intuition type(p<0.01). In dietary practice, Feeling type had more irregular meal than Thinking type. In the relationship between personality type and nutrient intake, there were some significant differences between paired types, but they didn't show any consistent trend. In conclusion, it would be effective to develop programs to educate university students based on their individual personality type.
