The purposes of this case study were to determine the indoor air quality of winter evening in apartment houses and to analyze the main influencing factors. Field measurements were carried out in three apartment houses from 28th November to 6th December 2009. The field surveys consisted of measurements of indoor air elements, interviews of residents, and observations of factors. Measurement elements were background elements(air temperature and relative humidity) and indoor air elements (CO, CO2, HCHO and TVOC). As a result, the average air temperature in each apartment house were 21.0~24.2℃, relative humidity were 31.3~56.0%. The average of CO concentration in each house were 0.5~1.5ppm, below the standard level(10ppm). The average of CO2 concentration in each house were 1,170~1,854ppm, exceed the standard level(1,000ppm). The average of HCHO concentration in each house were 0.03~0.15ppm, in which 2 houses exceeding the standard level(0.08ppm). The average of TVOC concentration in each house were 0.00ppm, below the standard level(0.58ppm). Therefore, the level for CO2 and HCHO proved to be at dangerous level. The level of CO2 or HCHO concentration mostly revealed that increasing by the use of gas range or the number of residents, and decreasing by the window open or the operation of kitchen hood.
