저소득층 성매매 십대여성들의 성매매와 사회화 과정에 대한 일 연구

A Study on the Socialization Process of the Lower Class Young Girls Who Experience Prostitution

본 연구에서는 저소득층 성매매 십대여성들의 삶을 통해 이들을 둘러싸고 있는 삶의 환경을 분석하고, 이 안에서 그들이 어떻게 성인으로 성장하고 있는가를 분석했다. 이를 위해 성매매 경험이 있는 저소득층 십대 여성 14명을 심층면접 했다. 이들은 열악한 삶의 환경, 즉, 빈곤, 부모-자녀 유대 약화, 학교로부터의 배제 등을 겪으면서 성인 보호 체계에서 퇴거하게 된다. 즉, 가출 후 거리로 나가 새로운 삶을 모색하는 것이다. 그러나 이들은 청소년의 노동권이 보장되지 않은 상태에서 절대적 빈곤을 겪게 되는데, 이 과정에서 십대 여성의 육체를 통해 재화를 벌 수 있는 가장 손쉬운 방법, 즉 성매매의 유입을 통해 문제를 해결하게 된다. 더러는 이와 같은 생활을 청산하고자 하지만, 대부분은 그러한 시도에 실패하게 되는데, 이는 성매매 유입을 통해서, 다른 경로를 통해서는 얻을 수 없는 경제력, 구매력을 매우 손쉽게 획득할 수 있다는 사실을 인식하게 되기 때문이다. 따라서 이들은 단기적 보상이 제공되는 성매매 산업에 계속 머무르면서 자발적으로 슬레이브 걸(Haug, 1997)이 되기를 선택한다. 이는 곧 보통 청소년으로서 수행해야 하는 학업/대학 등에 대해 관심을 두지 않고, 단기적 보상이 제공되는 생활을 계속함으로써 근근이 살아갈 것을 선택하는 것이다. 이들은 우리 사회의 통상적인 사회화 과정, 즉 장래를 위해서 교육자본을 쌓는 방법을 스스로 포기하게 됨으로써, 대안적인 사회화 과정을 겪게 된다. 그 결과, 성매매 십대 여성의 사회화 과정은 학교에 머무르면서 학업을 지속하고, 대학에의 진학을 목표로 하는 일반적인 청소년들의 사회화 과정과 구별된다고 할 수 있다. 이를 통해서 볼 때, 청소년들의 사회화 과정에 대한 논의는, 동일한 연령대 인구군이 동일한 발달 과정을 경험한다고 간주하는 근원주의적 논의를 지양하고, 다양한 집단이 겪는 다양한 생애발달 과정에 대한 고려가 필요하다는 것을 알 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to understand the socialization process of the lower class young girls who experience prostitution. It conducted in-depth interviews with 14 teenagers who had experienced prostitution. Findings show that the teenagers interact with their parents, schools and societies which would not take care of them and develop their own strategies to survive. Prostitution is the only way of life to acquire the economic power, otherwise they cannot achieve. The ecological systems such as the poverty, disorganized family structure, and the lack of the support in the schools have influenced them not to pursue the academic success and instead to gain the economic power using their young body and sexuality. Thus, they adopt to a slave girl(Haug, 1997), which means the alternative way to be socialized as a Korean adolescent. It concludes that we consider the class, gender and other social status of adolescents when we discuss the adolescent socialization process, since ‘the exclusive and normal socialization process' does not exist.
