Why Do Professors Choose to Develop or not to Develop e-Learning Coursewares?

지금까지 대학차원에서 e-러닝을 확산시키기 위하여 많은 연구들이 진행되어 왔지만, 대부분의 연구들은 학습자 측면에서 e-러닝 활용에 관한 연구에 많은 관심이 있어왔다. 본 연구는 대학교수들이 왜 e-러닝 코스웨어(콘텐츠)를 개발하지 않는지에 관한 이유를 밝히고, e-러닝 코스웨어 개발을 촉진시키는 동기요인이 무엇인가를 밝히는데 주된 목적이 있다. 설문조사를 통한 분석결과 대학교수들이 e-러닝 코스웨어를 개발하지 않는 주된 이유로는 개발기회를 갖지 못한 것이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 이 외에도 시간의 부족, 개발의 어려움 등이 주된 이유로 나타났다. 반면 e-러닝 코스웨어를 개발하는데 있어 가장 중요한 동기요인으로는 시간과 장소에 구애를 받지 않는 편리성 제공으로 나타났다. 그외에도 가르치는 교과목이 e-러닝으로 적합함, e-러닝은 유용한 교육수단 등이 중요한 동기촉진요인으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통하여 대학교수들이 갖고 있는 e-러닝 코스웨어 개발의 장애요인과 동기요인을 밝힘으로써 대학차원에서 e-러닝 활성화를 위한 정책을 수립하는데 있어 매우 유용한 통찰력을 제공할 수 있다.

Although many studies have been performed to proliferate e-Learning at the university level, most of the studies have focused on increasing students' e-Learning use. This study identifies reasons why professors do not develop e-Learning coursewares(contents) and what motivates professors to develop their e-Learning coursewares. The results show that the most important reasons for professors not developing e-Learning coursewares are: don't have opportunities to develop an e-Learning courseware, lack of time to develop e-Learning coursewares, and it is difficult to develop e-Learning coursewares, while the most important motivators for professors to develop e-Learning coursewares are: e-Learning coursewares provide convenience in terms of time and place, my teaching subjects are suitable for e-Learning coursewares, and e-Learning coursewares are an useful educational tool. This study will provide strategic insights for developing effective policies and means to spread e-Learning in the university.
