성인 지적장애인 남동생을 돌보는 비장애 누나들의 부양 경험

Experience of Older Sisters as Caregivers of Adult Brothers with Intellectual Disability

본 연구는 성인 지적장애인 남동생을 부양하고 있는 비장애 누나들의 부양경험을 파악하여 지적장애인 부양에 대한 이해를 제공하고자 수행되었다. 본 연구에서는 유의표집 방법을 통해 총 5명의 연구참여자들을 선정했으며, 자료수집 기간은 2008년도 6월부터 2009년도 12월까지였다. Giorgi의 현상학적 분석방법이 적용된 본 연구의 결과, 연구참여자들의 기술로부터 총 7개의 구성요소와 17개의 하위 구성요소가 도출되었다. 이를 통해 성인 지적장애인 남동생의 비장애 누나들의 부양경험은 < 형제로서의 부양자에서 부모같은 부양자로 변화되는 '부모됨의 경험’ >임을 알 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 이론적, 실천적 함의를 제시하였으며, 성인 지적장애인을 돌보는 비장애 누나들을 형제의 입장으로서만 이해하기보다는 ‘부모됨을 경험하는 부모같은 부양자’로서 이해하는 새로운 시각이 필요함을 시사하였다.

The main purpose of this study is to examine caregiving experience of older sisters of adult brothers with intellectual disability. Purposive sampling method was used to select participants of this study, and five participants were selected. Data were collected between June 2008 and December 2009. This study used phenomenological research methodology, in particular Giorgi’s analytical method. This study deducted total of seven constituents and 17 sub constituents, based on 994 meaning units derived from participants’ descriptions. The findings of the study showed that the caregiving experience of older sisters of adult brothers with intellectual disability is < the experience of 'being a parent' that they were changed as a caregiver like parents from a caregiver as a sibling >. This study showed theoretical and practical implications in social work. It suggests that new perspective is required to understand older sisters of adult brothers with intellectual disability not simply as sibling but also as the caregivers to experience being a parent.
