Factors Associated with Attitudes toward Persons with Disabilities: Analysis of the Interaction Effect between Human Rights Consciousness and Disability-Related Activitie

장애영역에 대한 관점은 시혜의 측면으로부터 권리기반 관점으로 이동하고 있다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 관점의 이동에 주목하여 인권현안인식과 장애관련활동 경험의 상호작용이 장애인에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 하였다. 자료수집은 전국 공무원, 교사, 의료인, 언론인, 장애인복지시설종사자 등의 표적집단을 포함한 477명의 비장애인을 대상으로 이루어졌으며, 회귀분석을 활용하여 변인의 주효과 및 상호작용효과를 분석하였다. 연구의 주요한 결과는 첫째, 연령이 낮을수록, 둘째, 일반인보다 공무원 교사, 언론인, 장애인복지시설종사자 등의 표적집단이 장애인에 대한 태도가 긍정적인 것으로 나타났으며, 셋째, 인권현안인식과 장애관련활동경험은 정적 상호작용효과를 가지는 것으로 발견되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 권리기반 접근의 실효성과 당위성을 뒷받침하며, 인권에 관한 교육과 직·간접적으로 장애인을 경험할 수 있는 프로그램이 상호 지향해야 할 방향을 제시한다.

Perspectives on persons with disabilities(PwD) have changed from the charity level to human rights level. Based on this change of perspectives on PwD, this study investigated the factors associated with non-PwD's attitudes toward PwD, and examined the interaction effect between human rights consciousness and disability-related activity experience. The nationalwide data consist of a sample of 477 non-disabled persons from targeted groups including public officers, teachers, health care providers, journalists, and people working in facilities for PwD as well as people in the general population. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the main effects and interaction effects of factors on non-PwD's attitudes toward PwD. The results showed that younger individuals, and individuals in the above targeted professional groups have more positive attitudes toward PwD, and that human rights consciousness is positively associated with attitudes toward PwD. The results also revealed that statistically significant is the interaction effect between human rights consciousness and disability-related activity experience on attitudes toward PwD. These findings support the effectiveness and appropriateness of rights-based analysis approach and imply that education on human rights and disability-related activities may play an important role in promoting non-PwD's attitude toward PwD.
