A Study of Leedammyung's 『Juseo-Diary』 in the Late Chosun Dynasty

Leedammyung, who was born in the famous Kwang-Ju Lees, wrote｢Juseo-Diary｣ which recorded what he experienced as a Juseo of Sungjongwon where political events took place between the end of Hyun-jong and the early Suk-jong period. While recording the political events, he wasn't inclined to his political party, but he recorded the event with a detached view. This is the most important reason why this diary is considered important. He maintained the judgement about the events to the future generations rather than he judged as a member of his own political party. Therefore, he showed a good example for us who tend to forget the historical lesson and seek the power of today. 『Juseo-Diary』 of Leedammyung itself is significant, for it is main documents to illuminate the political events and government administrations of the days. Especially, it provides wide and detailed evidence to analyze the history of Late Chosun Dynasty better than any other records. Therefore it is basic materials to find out the facts of history of Late Chosun Dynasty, and shows that the ruling class of the days regarded historical view and record as important. 『Juseo-Diary』 was considered the same as Sacho which was recorded by Sakwan. We can get some important view of the late Chosun Dynasty. It shows the real facts of remaining Sungjongwon-Diary, and it can also be historical document that explains even what is not written on the 『Sungjongwon-Diary』. Therefore, it complements official annals. We can find detailed characteristics and meanings from it. We anticipate that we can understand archives of istorical materials and the feature of management-system of Chosun Dynasty better, if the study of the whole diary is accomplished.
