나주임씨 언간의 구개음화 교정 현상 연구

A Study on the Corrections of t-palatalization in the Hangeul Letter of Naju Lim Family

이 연구는 17세기 후반에 간행된 나주임씨의 언간 자료 󰡔叢巖公水墨內簡󰡕, 󰡔林滄溪先生墨寶󰡕에 특징적으로 드러나는 t-구개음화 교정 현상을 구개음화의 지리적․사회적 확산의 과정에서 중앙어가 갖는 권위(prestige)에 대한 문헌 표기자의 태도에 그 원인이 있다는 전제하에 두 문헌에 나타난 t-구개음화의 교정 양상을 기술하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 16세기 후반인 1560년경 남부 방언에서 수행된 구개음화의 일반적인 발달과 확산의 경로를 따르자면, 특히 표기 당시의 일상 언어를 가장 잘 반영하고 있을 것으로 간주되는 언간 자료에는 상당히 활발하게 구개음화가 반영되어 있었을 것으로 기대할 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 기대와는 달리 나주임씨의 언간 자료에서는 구개음화가 거의 반영되어 있지 않다는 점에서 매우 독특한 언어적 사실을 보유하고 있다고 할 것이다. 이와 같은 언어적 사실에 대한 한 가지 가능한 해석으로서, 본 연구에서는 나주임씨의 언간 자료에서 보이는 교정 현상을 구개음화의 발달과 지리적 확산의 양상과 관련, 중앙어가 지니는 사회언어학적 가치 또는 외재적 권위에 대한 표기자의 적극적인 반응의 결과에서 비롯된 구개음화의 교정 현상으로 보아야 한다는 견해를 제시한바, 이는 일정한 음운 현상의 발달에 대한 언어 사용자들의 해석과 평가가 문헌의 표기에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 수 있는가를 확인할 수 있도록 해준 데 그 의의가 있다 하겠다.

This study aims to describe corrections of t-palatalization shown in two literatures with an assumption that depalatalization cha󰠀 racteristic in ‘Chongamsumuknegan’ and ‘Limchanggyeseonsaeng󰠀 mukbo’, Hangeul letters of Naju Lim Family which were published in late 17th century, is an aspect of active correction by descriptors that may occur in usual developmental process of palatalization. According to general development of palatalization which was used in dialects of the southern area in about 1560 and routes of its expansion, it is expected that palatalization was considerably active from data on Hangeul letters which are considered as reflecting daily conversation at that time very well. However, contrary to that it is expected, little palatalization was detected in Hangeul letters of Naju Lim Family, which indicates there is a very distinctive linguistic fact. As a possible interpretation of such linguistic fact, this study considers the depalatalization as an aspect of correction which is associated with hyper-correction. Therefore, this study has a meaning in that it can confirm how users' interpretation and assessment of development of a certain phonological phenomenon can have on description of literatures.
