This study is an analysis on the chapters about Goguryeo in Samgukyusa. The result of the analysis is as following. First, Samgukyusa is assumed to have a number of authors other than Ilyeon himself. It is proved by a fact that none of the articles regarding Goguryeo cites the authority in book 5, apparently written by Ilyeon, while only two articles are found in book 4, signed by Mugeuk. Difference in the verification of the reference can be an evidence for the possible existence of other authors of Samgukyusa. Second, Samgukyusa can be considered a report on the history of Goguryeo as much as the history of Shilla. According to this study, 41.8-44.9% of Samgukyusa is about Goguryeo. Third, Samgukyusa is supplementary to other history books of the times rather than to only one book. Guksa and Seungjeon are referred more than 12 times in Samgukyusa, which supports the argument that Samgukyusa is complementary to the missing story in Guksa and Seungjeon. Fourth, in Samgukyusa most chapters dealing with the Goguryeo history depend on the material from Shilla as well as the Chinese material which occupies 40%. This indicates that the archives of Goguryeo was not preserved in the 13th century.
