When textbooks by the 7th National Curriculum for Korean Language Education and the 2007 revised Korean Language Education Curriculum are taught according to their language parts, it is found that their contents which should be connected each other are made separately and although several Korean language parts are taught in a combined way, the textbooks used are divided into separate volumes. This is different from our language in daily routines, so I would like to suggest textbooks Based on the Whole Language Education for elementary school Korean language education using picture books by investigating the possibility of the textbook based on whole language education through examining educational value of picture books and applying them as real combined text books. In chapter 1, it unfolds the purpose of this research, picture books and whole language education, reviews on previous studies on the Korean language, the procedures and research method of this research, the definition of picture books and whole language, and the limitation of this research. In Chapter 2, it drew the necessity of the integrated Korean language textbook by examining the current Korean language textbooks and prepared the theoretical foundation on the possibility of the textbooks based on whole language education using picture books by studying the characteristics, the teaching methods, and the educational value of picture books. In chapter 3, it showed the composition principle of the textbook based on whole language education using picture books, and examined its composition methods for its execution, and designed one unit according to the textbook based on whole language education using picture books and applied it into an elementary school class. As a result, it reveals that picture books already have the features of integrated textbooks in structure, and they can be composed as an ideal textbook for whole language education, and that through the textbook using picture books, whole language education between various Korean language parts, between curriculums and between lots of media is possible. It was found that teaching students with the textbook based on whole language education using picture books in class made their interest and attention increased by reading picture books to them with integrated media and by various activities with the other textbooks, as a result, they could reach their goal very easily thanks to raised concentration. Therefore, the meaning of this research lies in revealing that it is possible to compose a Korean textbook based on whole language education between parts, between units, and between media through using picture books and that the designed integrated textbook can give an positive effect on students' learning.
