용산참사 현장의 교회

The Church placing itself in the Yongsan Disaster: The Self-understanding of the Church in the light of Models of the Church of Avery Dulles

교회의 자기이해는 교회가 위치한 구체적 상황 속에서 이루어져야 하며, 시대 상황이 변함에 따라 계속되어야 할 과제다. 따라서 교회의 자기이해는 당시의 상황을 제대로 읽는 것이 중요하다. 2009년 초 일어난 용산참사는 신자유주의에 기초한 세계화된 자본주의 경제가 지배하는 한국 사회의 현주소를 요약해서 보여주는 사건이다. 참사 발생 이후, 사제와 수도자를 포함한 많은 그리스도인들이 현장에 참여하며 유족들을 도왔다. 이 글은 용산참사라는 구체적 상황 속에서 “제자들의 공동체”, “사신(使臣)”, “종”이라는 모형을 사용하여 교회의 자기이해를 쇄신하기 위한 성찰의 결과다. 이 성찰을 통해서 교회가 세상의 빛과 소금의 역할을 더욱 충실히 할 수 있는 계기가 마련될 수 있을 것이다.

The self-understanding of the church must be done within a concrete context in which the church is located. It is a task to be continued as its context varies. Therefore it is important to read the contemporary situation for the self-understanding of the church properly. The Yongsan Disaster, which took place in 2009, shows the present situation of Korea in which the globalized capitalist economy based on neoliberalism prevails in a summarized version. When it happened, many Christians including priests and the religious people were present in the place of the Disaster and supported the victims' families. This essay is an outcome of reflection to renew the self-understanding of the church, in the particular context of the Yongsan Disaster, with the church models of "community of disciples," "herald," and "servant." This reflection can be taken as a chance for the church to play in a more faithful way with regards to the role of the light and candle of the world.
