동양화의 형(形)과 신(神)에 대한 고찰

A study of form and spiritual being in the traditional Chinesepainting theories

이 글은 동양화의 형신론에 주목하여 화가가 형과 신을 얻는 미의식 구조를 구성해 보는데 목적이 있다. 동양화에서 형과 신개념을 구성하는 구조를 파악하기 위하여 전국시대부터 청대까지 회화에 관한 문헌과 화론을 살펴본 결과, 형․신개념은 학(學)․사(思).심(心).기(氣) 와 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 전통시대에 동양화 창작자들이었던 지식인들이 학문의 지침으로 삼았던 유가의 경전인 『대학』에서 앎을 알아가는 원리는 앎의 주체인 심(心)이 학(學)과 사(思)를 통하여 사물에 대한 지(知)를 추구해가는 격물치지(格物致知)라는 진리추구과정이라고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 회화를 창작하는 것은 주체인 화가의 심이 사물에 대한 학과 사를 통하여 얻은 지를 형으로 표현하는 과정이 될 수 있으며, 이 때 지는 회화의 신에 해당하는 것일 수 있다. 형과 신 두 범주로 구성되는 형신론의 창작이론 구조를 학교미술교육에서 학생들의 수준에 적합하게 제시해 준다면, 미의식을 산출하고 미적체험을 하는 한 가지 방법으로 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

We can recognize that the Image(Xiang) and the Spiritual being(Xin) are basic concepts of explaining the traditional chinese painting. Because these concepts are key concepts in the chinese philosophy. It is useful that Image and Spiritual being concepts searching by Chinese painting theories, which are records about ancient oriental paintings. According to painting theories, Spiritual being, which has been talked for more than 1000 years, is important concept. Ku K'aichih thought that the most important thing in a portrait is expressing the person’s Spiritual being, and the spiritual being is located in the center of eyes. Otherwise, to Shiht'ao, the meaning of Image is changed. In my opinion, Spiritual being, which is mentioned in painting theory, has various hidden meanings and need to researched by various spectrum. So I’m going to explain the chinese painting theories by finding and analyzing the hidden meanings of Spiritual being and Image. Getting new meaning from the concept of Image and Spiritual being, It would like to be a useful way, that is to connect the concept of Research.(Ge Wu; Zhi Zhi) To connect Research(Ge Wu; Zhi Zhi) with Image and Spiritual being, we know that the concept of Spiritual being has hidden meaning, it is to say Qi.
