미량성분을 이용한 동해 기곡 구석기유적 출토 흑요석의 산지 연구

Provenance Study of Obsidian from Gigok paleolithic site in Donghae–si using Trace Elements

동해 기곡 구석기유적에서 출토된 흑요석 14점의 미량원소를 유도결합플라즈마질량분석기(ICP–MS)로 분석하여 흑요석 간의 상관관계 및 산지관계를 알아보았다. 분석결과 동해 기곡 구석기유적 출토 흑요석은 크게 두 개의 서로 다른 그룹으로 이루어져 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 동해 기곡 구석기유적에서 출토된 흑요석은 서로 다른 종류의 흑요석으로 이루어져 있으며 이는 흑요석의 산지가 서로 다를 수 있음을 보여주는 증거이다. 또한 한반도의 대표적 흑요석 산지인 백두산과 우리나라 구석기 유적인 강원도 양구 상무룡리, 철원 장흥리, 충북 단양 수양개에서 출토된 흑요석들과 상관관계를 알아본 결과, 동해 기곡 구석기유적에서 출토된 흑요석들의 경우 백두산과는 상관관계가 없으나, 강원도 철원 장흥리 구석기유적에서 출토된 흑요석과 일부 같은 종류의 것들로 이루어져 있다. 즉, 동해 기곡 구석기유적에서 출토된 흑요석 중 일부는 다른 구석기 유적과 성분이 유사한 흑요석을 사용하였음을 보여준다. 이번에 분석한 결과로 흑요석의 정확한 산지를 알 수는 없었으나 동해 기곡 구석기유적에는 다양한 종류의 흑요석들이 서로 다른 산지에서 유입되어 사용되었음을 본 연구를 통하여 확인할 수 있었다.

The trace elements of 14 obsidian flakes from Gigok Paleolithic site in Donghae–si are analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectroscopy(ICP–MS) to figure out the provenance relation. As a result of trace elements analysis, the obsidian flakes are separated to two groups, i. e. they are consisted of obsidian flakes to the different type, which proves to have different provenance. In addition, we look into the correlation between Korean representative obsidian provenance, Baekdusan(mountain) and obsidian from the Paleolithic sites, Gigok, Donghae–si Gangwon–do, Sangmuyong–ri Yanggu Gangwon–do, Jangheng–ri Cheolwon Gangwon–do, Suyanggae Danyang Chungbuk using PCA(Principal Component Analysis). The obsidian from Gigok paleolithic site is no relationship with Baekdusan(mountain) but some of them are composed as same as those of Janghung–ri Cheolwon Gangwon–do. In other word, the provenance of obsidian from Gigok paleolithic site is not certain but some of obsidian are similar to other paleolithic site. Therefore this study identifies that the provenance of obsidian are not exactly found but obsidian from diversity provenances was used in the Gigok Paleolithic site.
