통합합성어의 형성에 관한 고찰

A study on formation of synthetic compound

본고는 2000년에서 2005년까지의 신어 가운데 통합합성어를 대상으로 하여, 이들의 형성에 관하여 살폈다. 국어의 통합합성어의 형성에 관한 논의는 [N+V]의 합성과정이 먼저인가, 또는 [V+Suf]의 파생 과정이 먼저인가에 따라 두 입장으로 나뉜다. 이 중 [N+V]의 합성 과정이 먼저 일어난다는 입장으로는 신어의 통합합성어 중 설명이 불가능한 경우가 있다는 것을 지적하고 이를 [V+Suf]의 파생 과정이 먼저 일어난다는 입장으로 설명 가능함을 보였다. 이를 통하여 신어 가운데 통합합성어의 형성에서는 [V+Suf]의 파생 과정이 먼저 일어나며 단어 형성에 활발하게 참여하는 [V+Suf]의 경우에는 임시어로 저장되는 것으로 보았다. 그리고 사용 빈도가 점차 높아지면 이것이 영구 저장되어 자립적으로 쓰일 수 있다고 보았다.

The purpose of this study is to examine synthetic compounding in word formations. Previous studies described the formation of synthetic compounds in two ways, depending on the case involved, one of either [N+V] or [V+Suf] compounding, takes place first. This paper presents the compounding examples, which can be explained only by arguing that [V+Suf] compounding is prior to [N+V] compounding, not the other way around. [V+Suf] forms used in many synthetic compound formations are tentatively stored as words, and those words get permanently stored as free nouns as their frequencies increase.
