A derivative and deriving its meaning - concentrating on derivatives with multi-senses

본고는 갈래뜻을 2개 이상 가지는 파생어를 대상으로, 한 파생어가 다의성을 띠게 되는 원인 및 그 관련 현상을 언어 기호를 다의적으로 활용하려는 인간의 인지적특성의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 한 파생어에 유표적 의미가 발생하는 원인은 인간의 인지 체계가 새 의미에 대한 표현 욕구를 느낄 때마다 매번 새 단어를 만들기보다는 한 언어 기호에 다의성을 부여하여 인지적 부담을 줄이는 방식으로 작동하기 때문이다. 어기와 접사의 결합인 파생어에는 의미의 유동성이 있고, 화자는 이 유동성을 활용하여 표현적 욕구를 충족시키는 과정에서 한 파생어가 다의성을 띠게 된 것이라 생각된다.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the reason why a derivative comes to have multi-senses and to survey its related facts on the point of human cognition that tends to use a language sign in a polysemous way. Why a derivative has multi-senses is not so much that human makes a new word corresponding to a new meaning as that human has a tendency to make a word have multi-senses. There is semantic fluidity in a derivative, being combination of base and affix. It is thought that a derivative comes to have multi-senses while human satisfies the desire for expression by using semantic fluidity.
