A morpho-syntactic analysis of numeral classifier constructions

이 논문은 수량사 구성의 형태-통사론적인 분석을 제시한다. 이 논문의 주요 주장은 다음과 같다. 첫째 모든 어휘 명사는 보편적으로 물질(mass)을 나타내며 물질을 개체화시켜주는 기능범주로서의 분류사구의 투사에 의해 가산명사화된다. 분류사구는 분류사 언어인 한국어에서 분류사 형태로 실현된다. 둘째 분류사는 수사와 더불어 각각 독립적인 기능범주로 설정되어야 한다. 셋째 수량사 구성은 명사와 수-분류사의 주술관계로 이루어진 소절 구성을 그 기저구조로 하며 명사 선행 구성과 수량사 선행 구성은 술어도치 이동에 의해 서로 연결되어 있다.

This paper presents a morpho-syntactic analysis of numeral classifier constructions. The main claims of this paper can be summed up as follows; first, bare nouns, cross-linguistically, represent mass and they become count nouns by being embedded within the projection of a classifier phrase, which is the locus for the individuation feature. The classifier node is realized as a classifier in Korean, which falls into classifier languages. Second, classifiers, along with numerals, should be posited as independent functional categories. Third, numeral classifier constructions have an underlying structure in which a host noun and its numeral classifier form a small clause, and the numeral classifier-preceding constructions are derived from the noun-preceding constructions by predicate inversion.
