관형사의 결합 양상에 대한 연구

국어의 관형사는 단독으로 후행 체언을 수식하기도 하지만 여러 개가 나타나 수식하기도 한다. 이때 관형사 간에는 ‘지시-수-성상’이라는 비교적 고정된 결합 순서가 적용되는데 본고에서는 말뭉치를 통하여 관형사의 선후행 요소 간의 결합 양상을 검토함으로써 이러한 결합 순서가 절대적이지 않음을 밝혔다. 또한 개별 관형사에 따라 이러한 결합 순서는 달라질 수 있으며 그 예도 함께 제시하였다. ‘지시-수-성상’의 결합 순서는 선행하는 관형사의 수식 범위와 중심어의 속성을 먼저 정의하는 수식어의 특성에 의하여 성립하는 것으로 파악할 수 있다.

Nouns in Korean can be modified by more than one prenominal modifiers. It has been known that the ordering among the prenominal modifiers in such a case is fixed in a way like ‘demonstrative -numeral-attributive prenomanal modifiers’. This study examines the orderings of prenominal modifiers by using corpus data. The analysis of corpus data revealed that such a ordering of prenominal modifiers, which has been considered as fixed, is not absolute, contrary to the common belief, but relative depending on case by case. The ordering of prenominal modifiers rather depends on the scope relations among prenominal modifiers. Some modifiers have semantic characteristics to define the properties of their head nouns earlier than others.
