동학의 생명사상과 생명존중의 교육

Thoughts of Donghak and Life Respect Education

본 연구는 최제우와 최시형의 초기동학에 나타난 생명사상과 수행방법이 생명존중의 교육에 주는 시사점을 탐색하고자 하였다. 동학생명존중 사상에서 ‘불연기연’은 보이는 현상의 드러난 질서에 대한 기연 즉 ‘그렇다’와 보이지 않는 근원적인 ‘숨겨진 질서’의 차원에 대한 불연으로서 ‘아니다’를 말한다. 이는 기연이 불연이 되고, 불연이 기연이 될 수 있는 가시적 질서와 근원적 질서를 통일적으로 인식하는 사상이다. ‘물물천 사사천’은 세상 만유가 한울이 아닌 것이 없다는 뜻으로, 우주만물에 한울의 생명이 깃들어 있으니 공경하고, 또 공경하라는 사상이다. 동학의 교육방법론은 ‘수심정기’와 ‘성.경.신’으로 설명될 수 있다. 이는 하나의 삶의 기술로써 구체적인 삶 속에서 실천될 수 있는 일상적 수행방법이다. 이것의 궁극적인 목적은 시천주사상에 이르는 것이며, 본고는 이를 난해한 학문적 방법이 아니라 인간 삶에서의 도리와 실천방안으로 해석하였다. 동학사상은 결국 생명존중의 교육으로 귀결되는 바, 이러한 교육은 생명을 보살피고, 생명을 살리고 기르는 데서 비롯된다. 생명존중교육에서 자기교육 또한 중요한 데, 이는 실제적인 삶에서 각자가 스스로 생각하며 자신과 주변을 둘러보고 온 마음으로 느낄 때 가능하다.

Basde upon a prmise that western science culture which is based on technological viewpoint and dualism overlooked environmental disaster, this study examined whether life respect of early Donghak method, Choe Che-U(최제우) and Choe Si-Hyeong(최시형), can look back into our society and education. Bulyeongiyeon(불연기연) is that Giyeon of visible order, that is, ‘yes’ and Bulyeon of ‘invisible order’. Giyeon cannot be Giyeon infinitely, Bulyeon cannot be Bulyeon forever either. By this method, Giyeon turns into Bulyeon and Bulyeon also changes into Giyeon. As a result, in this point of view, visible order and invisible order are regarded simultaneously. Mulmulcheon Sasacheon(물물천 사사천) means that everything in the world is Hanul(한울), namely, Hanul exists in every lives so we should respect all of them. It is an impotant part of human duty. Educational method of Donghak’s life respect ideas can be explained by training method of Soosim Jeonggi(수심정기) and SeongGyungSin(성.경.신). It cannot be simply by reading ten thousands of books. It means practice Soosim Jeonggi and SeongGyungSin as the art of living. Real meaning of Soosim Jeonggi and SeongGyungSin is to reach Sichenju(시천주) idea. It did not mention about difficult academical grounding, but truth and practical ways. This study regarded wide range of life in Donghak as life respect education about relationships such as life and human, human and human, human and nature. Also, it induced educational meaning containing life respect as self-education. Education method of life respect should be the way to take care of lives and have relationship with them. Self-education in life is education that makes it possible to feel oneself and surroundings by oneself.
