A Spiritualism study of Lee tae jun's short stories

Lee tae jun is a leading novelist in the 1930s. This paper went deep into the study of the idea of Lee tae jun's short stories, before the liberation of the short stories from the early short stories, which has the structure and aesthetic aspects. His short stories have usually three kinds of structural patterns which are the identity establishment through the process of exploration, revealed social contradiction in the pursuit of idea,identity loss due to modern cultural bias. The aesthetic aspects in his short stories are ‘anguish’ that emerge through difference between ideal and reality and ‘balance’ of tradition and modernity. when I view these structure and aesthetic aspects, his short stories were presented ‘spiritualism’. The spiritualism are three kinds of aesthetic aspects - ‘identity’, ‘ethnicity’, ‘tradition’. Meanwhile, his idea was disparaged as‘classicism’, the denial of the modern by some researchers. However, his short stories went to control the modern materialistic through tradition. In other words, his short stories were seeking a balance of material and spiritual. (Korea University)
