Classical literary works associated with Busan are as diverse as folk tale, Chinese poetry and Ga-sa. To these genres, Chang-ga and folk song are added and so, a great many classifications and pieces remain to date. I turn my attention to place names used in literary works in order to extend the categories and deepen the understanding of them from the life and literary world of authors, the structure of literary works and recognition of Busan, the historic relics as literary subject matters that I mentioned as away of understanding classical literature. A place name is a time capsule of cultural heritage playing a role of distinguishing a region from other regions and showing the characteristics of a specific place. Therefore, the pursuit and understanding of a specific place name is a way of preparing a yardstick to comprehend cultural features of the place, both in the past and at present. I want to apply these points to the understanding of Ga-sa dealing with Busan. As a result, the works used in this paper actively deal with the place name of Busan. “Bongrae-Byeolgok” by Jeong Hyeon-duk(鄭顯德) and “Dongmyeon New & Old Ga-sa” by Park Jae-gap(朴在甲) are excellent Ga-sa works in the use and application of place name. Jeong Hyeon-duk, an official dispatched from the central government, depicted Busan as a fairy land for its beautiful scenic spots, as a tragic site of history to suffer Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 before any other regions, as a frontier in active relation with Japan even then, and as a living space of long history. Especially, he, as I mentioned before, has a really strong opinion in his recognition of Busan as a frontier forced to have a relationship with Japan. Thus, the place names frequently used in his works are associated with these factors. While he keeps a strong attitude to this aspect, he also sings about the peaceful Busan with scenic beauty in a stable atmosphere as he desires as an government official. On the other hand, in the Ga-sa dealing with Dongmyeon freshly created by Park Jae-gap, the author proudly depicts beautiful scenic spots, prosperous life and clear manners in his hometown. This work describing the author's affection of his hometown as he lives there is lively and rhythmic as it uses the place name in a simple and witty way.(Silla University)
