A Study on the characteristics and recognitions of Korean Oral Folk tales about founder of a country. Dongnam Journal of Korean Language & Literature. This study aims to reveal the method of conveying meaning of oral folktales about kings of character stories. Stories about kings may be divided into recorded stories and oral stories. One of the representatives is the birth myth of a nation handed down in literature. However, the kings who appear in the oral folk tales about kings are realistic beings who have the same limitations as ordinary people have and they show a significant distance from the heros of the birth myths of nations. Moreover, they show differences from general king's stories in literature, in which the themes or the contents change depending on a specific ruling ideology, political purpose or compiler's intent, etc. This study examined folk tales dividing them into typical characteristics, the structure of meaning and the method of conveyance, cultural significance.
