전문재활시설 이용 정신장애노숙인의 특성에 대한 추이 분석

A study of the longitudinal trend of characteristics of homeless persons with mental illness in the specialized rehabilitation center

본 연구의 목적은 상대적으로 연구가 소홀하였던 정신장애노숙인에 대하여 실증적 자료를 바탕으로 정신장애인의 인구사회학적, 고용 및 경제적, 임상적 특성, 사회적 지지 그리고 시설 이용과 관련된 특성의 동향을 분석함으로써, 정신장애노숙인 인구집단에 대한 이해를 높이고, 적절한 개입방안을 제시하기 위한 것이다. 분석대상은 2001년부터 2008년까지 우리나라의 대표적 전문재활시설인 비전트레이닝센터를 이용한 정신장애노숙인 총 762명을 분석대상으로 하였다. 본 연구에 이용된 자료는 비전트레이닝 센터에서 구축한 자료이다. 분석방법은 먼저 2001년부터 2008년까지 비전트레이닝센터를 이용한 총 762명의 정신장애노숙인 입소자의 특성이 지난 8년 동안에 어떠한 변화가 나타났는지를 분석 하였다. 분석결과는 첫째, 40~50대의 정신장애노숙인의 절대적 비율은 높으나, 신규입소자를 중심으로 살펴보면 20~30대의 젊은 층의 정신장애노숙인이 증가하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 미혼자의 비율이 증가하고 있으며, 연계하는 가족이 있음에도 노숙인이 되는 비율이 증가하고 있었다. 셋째, 정신장애노숙인의 경우 빈곤과 의료서비스의 사각지대에 놓여 있는 것이 발견되었다. 넷째, 지역사회의 연계를 통한 입소나 퇴소 의뢰가 미흡함이 나타났다.

This study examined the trend of characteristics among homeless persons with mental illness who utilized the specialized rehabilitation. The analysis of this study was based on 762 users homeless persons with mental illness who stayed in Vision Training Center between 2001 and 2008. The Center is a representative rehabilitation center for male homeless persons with mentail illness in Korea. This study analysis the administrative data collected by the Vision Training Center, tracking the patterns of characteristics including socio-demographics, job and economics, clinical status, social support and center utilization history. The results of this study found that the proportion of younger adults in 20's and 30's were increasing among the new-comers in Center. Second, the proportion of new-comers who are unmarried and connected to family members were growing. Third, homeless persons with mental illness were exposed to the vulnerability to poverty and insufficient medical services. Fourth, there were lacks of the admissions from and discharges to other homeless-related service organizations in community.
