생명문화지수, 누구에게 무엇을 말할 것인가?

The Life Culture Index, To Whom and For What? : From Measurement to a Task

'반(反)생명'으로 정의될 수 있는 이 죽음의 위기를 극복하기 위한 가장 기본적인 출발점은 공동체 내에 속한 개개인 의 고통이 구성원들 상호 간에 서로 소통될 수 있는 나름의 지표(indicator)를 설정하는 것이다. 이 글은 '생명문화지수' 라는 지적 작업의 필요성을 제기하기 위해 작성되었다. 특히 이 글은 '생명문화지수'가 공동체 유지의 기본적 원칙이 되는 다양한 가치, 그리고 그 가치들을 중심으로 형성된 다양한 제도와 의식들을 반성하고, 그것들이 가지는 '반생명'적 경향성을 극복함과 동시에 '친생명'적 공동체의 생활양식을 새롭게 구성할 수 있을 것이라 주장한다. 생명문화지수는 첫째, 공동체의 합의틀과 질서가 언제나 구성원들의 생명보호라는 기본적인 목적에 부합하도록 견제하는 역할을 수행할 수 있다. 둘째, 생명문화지수는 공동체가 형성될 당시 사용되었던 지적 능력이 생명에 대해 상대적으로 협소하 거나 차별적인 인식을 만들었을 경우, 그것을 재검토하고 보다 친생명적으로 전환시킬 수 있는 단초를 제공할 수 있다. 이 글은 '고통관리(반생명성/친생명성)'와 '생명보호(자원접근성/연대성)'이라는 생명문화의 두 원칙을 제시하면서 사회 및 제도 차원에서의 생명문화의 수준을 파악할 것을 제시한다.

To overcome the crisis of life defined as 'anti-life', the basic start point can be to set up an indicator helping understand other members' pain and make a better communication among all members in certain community. This article aims to suggest the necessity of an intellectual work on 'the life culture index'. In particular, this article argues that 'the life culture index' can guide us 1) to reflect key values of maintenance of a community and various institutions and ideologies based on those key values, 2) to overcome a tendency of 'anti-life' remained in those values, institutions and ideologies, 3) to reconstruct a new mode of a 'pro-life community'. In this sense, the life culture index has two crucial aims. The one is to check how agreement systems and orders of a certain community are well-balanced and satisfying the basic purpose of the protection of life for all members. The other is to re-examine the intellectual level and tendency of human consciousness toward life. In conclusion, this article proposes the principle of management of pain(anti-life/pro-life) and the principle of protection of life(capability of recourse approach/solidarity) as two principles of the life culture.
