A Study on the Living in Manchuria As Special Experience; Focus on the Political Identity and Description of Other Nations

Up to now, the experience of living in Manchuria has been interpreted in two ways. The one is suffering or resistance, and the other is pro-Japanese or anti-Japanese. Thinking of the speciality of‘Manchuguo(滿州國)’, the experience of living in Manchuria in the period of Japanese rule is not so simple. In this paper, I would read the various novels in two special ways, which were written by Korean writer those who have been in Manchguo. At first, Korean people who has lived there had to face the much more complicated political identities. The confusion has occurred between national identity and ethnic identity. on the other hand, they had to lived there with many other nations, for example Japanese, Chinese, Manchurian and Mongolian. So there was some national hierarchy or the order of national rank in Machuguo. These special experiences were not found in any other colonial experience which Korean people has experienced.(Dong- A University)
