This study intended to investigate English teachers' perceptions on what educational factors should be considered in order to decide the type of team teaching to adopt for their classes and what type of team teaching is appropriate for the given factors. The participants of this study were 196 elementary school teachers. The data were collected through a questionnaire which included selective and open-ended questions. Major findings from the analysis of the data were the following: 1) the majority of the teachers (about 80%) taught English in a team with a native English speaker using one leading-one assisting team teaching type; 2) the factors to be considered when deciding the team teaching type for English class were the teaching objectives, the characteristics of the learning activity, the length of teaching experience of the native English teachers, and the Korean teachers' and students’ English levels; 3) even though the best team teaching type was chosen differently according to the Korean teachers’ English levels, native English teachers' length of English teaching experience, and the students’ English levels, the traditional team teaching was selected most frequently; 4) the best team teaching type was also chosen differently according to learning activities such as review, games, songs, and reading/writing. Implications and suggestions for further study were discussed based on the findings.
