Curriculum construction of genre-based Korean composition education

The purpose of this paper is to search for ways of teaching composition by applying the genre-based education method in Korean language education, as well as to present appropriate composition education curriculum to Korean language education. The genre-based approach, which has been actively applied in foreign language education since the 1980s, is now recently being partially used in academic Korean language education. However, although genre-based approach motivates understanding of macro-structure and top-level structure, it has difficulties fulfilling the accuracy of the micro-structure. Concerning this issue, the present study proposes the writing curriculum that induces text production that covers from top-level structure to micro-structure. It first looks into the key principles of genre-based writing education and goes on to discuss the previous studies on teaching writing in the Korean education. Then, the specific conditions of how the genre-based approach principle of education is reflected in the academic Korean education is inquired. Lastly, the paper presents a genre-based writing curriculum in the Korean writing education that can instruct micro-structure, macro-structure, and top-level structure in text.
