A Study on the Background and Characteristics of Existential Human Deity

This research was initiated to organize the divinity system in a more specific perspective. It is a study mainly concentrated on the existential human deities among the human deities. Although the human deity is divided into the fictional and the existential human deities, past studies do not precisely distinguish the two. Consequently, it is a reality that the definitions of as well as the reciprocal relationship between the two are not properly articulated. In an attempt to this back-grond, this research is aimed at summarization of the characteristics of the existential human deities, the first essential phase in the study of existential human deities. Especially, this research has studied the backgrounds and religious particularities of the existential human deities through its comparison with the nature deity. Before the detailed description, it defined the concept of existential human deity. In addition, it Summarized the process of transition in religious system from the nature deity to human deity. In the process of executing this study, the subject of religion has changed from nature deity to giving personality to the nature deity (fictional human deity) to the existential human deity. The advent of existential human deity can be studied in the perspectives related to human’s development of perceptional thinking, religious aspects, and growth of new local influence (group) due to the transition of the national power system. In addition, compared to the nature deity, the existential human deity has a religious peculiarity of having a concrete good personality.(Dankook University)
