Language reflects and records social and cultural differences in a speech community. This study focuses on gender differences, for most societies differentiate between men and women in various marked ways. The primary aim of this cross-linguistic analysis is to investigate the dynamic relationship between gender and language use, especially the characteristics of women's speech in Korean, Arabic, and English. This study attempts to examine three characteristics of women's language by means of discourse analysis: 1) Women frequently use meaningless particles or weaker expletives, while the stronger expletives are reserved for men. 2) In expressing personal feelings or opinions, women's speech comes across as much more polite than men's. They tend to avoid confirmation and commitment. 3) Whereas men prefer colloquial speech, women use more grammatical vocabularies and sentences that conform to grammatical standards.
