A Study on 'Multicultural Ministry of the Korean Church' from Pastoral Theology Perspective

In recent years, we are witnessing abundant overseas missionary activities and domestic multi-cultural ministries of the Korean churches, following the increasing flow of immigrant workers and international marriages. This calls for the Korean church to have a better understanding of multi-cultural ministry from the perspective of pastoral theology, in a timely manner. Incorporating this new idea of multi-cultural ministry into the conventional church structure, culture, and norms may raise some conflict. However, such task has already become unavoidable to the Korean churches, as response to the challenges that our God has permitted. Maybe, this challenge can become an opportunity to actualize the Biblical church in our real life by reforming the body of the church, having people experience spiritual growth, and finally establishing the identity of Christian church. Unfortunately, there are almost none published researches, seminars, or even future schemes of studying the multi-cultural ministries from the Christian perspective. Although the Korean churches actually support the ministry most actively, the impression is that their multi-cultural ministry is not yet based on a sufficient understanding of the task and reality. The purpose of this research is to build up a theological foundation for the future development of a holistic welfare support system by combining general welfare services of the society and church ministries.
