Scholars played the central role in achieving the right direction and idea for the society as high-society people who led politics and culture by defining the idealogical standard of their generation. They established the system of civilization and developed education and learning in order to teach and manage the public. The reason scholars kept legitimate causes as well as beliefs and loyalty is that they tried to live respectable lives with the lonely pride and without a greedy mind. This paper shows how the scholar's spirit appears in the poems written by the poets who come from Chungnam and Daejeon. First, there is patriotism and ideals of defense with which people sacrifice and devote their lives to the safety and independence of the country when under attack by foreign countries or under colonial rule. This subject can be found in "Unified Thought", "The Day Comes", "Go Away, Empty Shell", Chilbaeguichong(Tomb of 700 volunteer troops)", and "Gyebaek's Wife" Second, some poets depict not only the distortions of avarice in society and politics but also the content lives amid poverty without adjusting themselves to the mundane world. This is also done with the attitude of transcendence by means of the satisfaction of unselfish lives in the reality and criticism of greedy society. They used this technique in "Tranquility", "In the Mountain, 2", "A Biography of Sobu Heoyoo", and "The Onset of Winter". Third, having an aloof and intelligent attitude and a strong life force, people don't give up or look to other for help in any situation but act on their beliefs. They develop their characters through the endless self-control and cultivation of their minds and act upon their principles. We can find this in "Blue History", "Winter Trees", "Abundant Stanza", and "Self-Portrait".
