A Study on the Construction of Eco-Ports in Korea

Ports are part of logistics chain and transport networks such as multimodal transport with an important role in the protection of the sea environment in sea, port, water-front area and hinterland. The environment protection of ports is at hot issue on a global basis owing to climate change and its effect. The port environment is threatened by port's hinterland, ships activity and port operation such as gantry crane for transit of cargo. And ports pollution may result from ship accidents and accidents of ports. The environmental friendly infrastructure in ports is very important for sustainable port development. There are so every effort to build eco-ports for building nature-friendly environment and establishing countermeasures against environmental pollution in ports in Korea. The purpose of this paper contribute to building of Eco-ports in Korea for nature friendly infrastructure and prevention of environmental pollution in port by studying the nature-friendly policies in Korean ports such as Busan, Gwangyang, Incheon and Ulsan ports.
