International electronic commerce is different from international commerce in the aspect of using electronic media and non-face-to-face transactions thus creating some problems such as authentication, integrity and lack of reputation. However, the laws and guidelines related to electronic certification systems are different among nations and international organizations. Many studies show not only that the notions of cross-border use of electronic signatures and authentication are not uniformly understood, but also that the functions they fulfill vary across legal systems. The problems of Cross-border use of Electronic Signatures and Authentication are actively being researched internationally and require a variety of policies and technical solutions.
