칼빈 성령론의 자리와 우주적, 일반 은총적 역사

The Place of Calvin’s Doctrine of the Holy Spirit Centered on Its Working for the Creation and Common Grace

본고에서 필자는 창조와 섭리 그리고 일반은총에 있어서의 성령의 사역에 대한 칼빈의 입장을 논구한다. 이와 관련하여 먼저 세 삼위격인 성령의 특성으로서의 하나님의 능력(virtus)과 작용(efficacia)이라는 측면을 내재적이며 경륜적인 삼위일체의 역동성에 주안점을 주는 칼빈 신학의 관점에서 다룬다. 이러한 고찰에 기반해서 첫째로 칼빈이 성령의 창조와 섭리에 있어서의 사역을 다룸에 있어서 영원하신 말씀으로서의 제 2위 하나님의 중보직과의 연관성에 주목하고 있음을 지적한다. 심지어 이러한 측면에 있어서조차 칼빈은 성령에 대한 기독론적 이해를 견지하고 있음을 파악하는 것이다. 칼빈은 삼위일체를 다룸에 있어서 성자와 성령의 위격을 역동적으로 논구하고 있는데 그 관점을 그리스도의 영이 말씀의 객관적 확실성과 주관적 감화를 연결시키는 고리라는 사실로부터 이끌어 낸다. 이러한 입장은 칼빈이 성령이 모든 사람들에 대한 일반은총에 있어서 작용하는 역사를 다룸에 있어서도 더욱 현저해 진다. 칼빈은 여기에서 신적 작정에 의해서 영원 전에 부여된 선천적으로 하나님의 사역에 응답하는 만인의 능력에 대한 특별한 관심을 쏟는다. 칼빈은 성령의 일반은총적 역사가 하나님의 부성적 호의, 사랑, 돌보심, 긍휼을 드러냄으로써 그분의 은총과 어떠하심을 동시에 계시함을 특별히 강조하고 있다. 이러한 측면에서 일반은총은 일반계시적 은총으로서 자리매김하게 된다. 여기에서 우리는 일부 신학자들이 일반은총을 지나치게 인식론적으로만 이해하여 극단적으로 치우쳐서 일반계시를 통한 자연신학에 이르거나 혹은 역으로 일반계시의 계시성 자체를 부인하는 자리에 이르는 오류에 대한 경종을 이미 칼빈이 울리고 있음을 파악할 수 있다. 그리하여 칼빈의 신학에 있어서 일반은총과 특별은총이 성령의 위격과 출래, 그리고 역동적 사역의 기초에서 동시에 중요성을 가짐을 확인할 수 있다.

This paper examines Calvin's position on the work of the Holy Spirit with reference to creation and providence and to common grace. The property of the third person of the Trinity is firstly mentioned with a special reference to its power(virtus) and efficacy(efficacia). In dealing with the significance of the work of the Holy Spirit Calvin's dynamic understanding of the relation between the immanent and economic Trinity is also investigated preliminarily. Based on this study, the first part is devoted to illuminating the fact that Calvin emphasizes the unique office of the eternal Word as the Mediator in dealing with the work of the Holy Spirit in the realm of creation and providence. Even in this case Calvin deploys his Christological understanding of the Holy Spirit. This stance is more prominent in Calvin's dealing with the work of the Holy Spirit in the realm of common grace. Here Calvin gives his especial attention to the concept of the image of God, which he believes is originated from the innate responsive ability to the divine ordain. So, for Calvin, common grace along with special grace is highly emphasized with reference to God's fatherly favor, care, and love.
